The Project
The eco-system of mixed grassland orchards constitutes a characteristic landscape element in many European countries. This habitat, however, is endangered due to insufficient care, abandoing to the nature, shrub invasion and re-plantations and also due to the absence of (economical) use. Therefore, in several European countries there are movements in different directions to regain use to this eco-system. This is also the aim of the applying non-profit organisations, who in their countries - Poland, Hungary, Austria, Denmark and Germany - offer different education and learning tools for older and younger people to provide them with sustainable ideas to work with and protect this kind of biotope.
The Learning Partnership is supposed to build up a network between these organisations. We are planning to have an exchange about several ongoing (educational) projects of every participant. On the basis of this exchange and the underlying experiences we would like to develop common ideas for knowledge transfer and to initiate entrepreneurial spirit for actors in rural areas.
This knowledge transfer concerns especially the following topics:
- consumers’ and environmental education concerning orchards
- improvement of technical and specified English language skills regarding horticulture and orcharding
- product and regional marketing for orchards
- traditions of orcharding and fruit varieties in different European countries
- possibilities of nature protection on orchards.
The final results of this Learning Partnership, beside the international networking, will be:
- improvement of quality of education outside one’s job through improvement of the partner associations’ curricula
- online dictionary of technical and specified English words translated into the partner-countries’ languages
- online database with typical regional fruit varieties.
All the final results will be presented on a common English webpage.
